Adding the Adventure

Filed under: Adventure — by Alison @ 2:46 pm

I enjoy alliteration, and that’s why I came up with the blog name. Now I feel I have to live up to it. Just like I’m trying to find fun things to do with my kids to write about for Kids in the Capital, I’m going to try to have an “adventure” a week to write about here. While an adventure is defined as “an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity”, I may go easy on the hazardous part, and focus on unusual and exciting. Well, unusual and exciting for me at least.

This week I tried anti-gravity yoga. I joined The Athletic Club last month and hadn’t been to their signature class until Monday. It was the beginner class and it showed me that I am not ready for anything harder. The instructors were helpful, good at explaining the moves and spotting when necessary. I needed help for the first flip. I blame this on gymnastics in grade 8 gym class, I had a traumatic experience with the uneven bars. Once I got over the fear of throwing my body in the air, supported by what seemed like nothing more than a bed sheet, it was enjoyable. Hanging upside down and swinging in the cocoon were the highlights. After the class, I was feeling pretty good. It wasn’t until the next day that I felt like I’d stretched over a rack. I also have bruises in my armpits. Maybe I’ll build some upper body strength before going back.

Help me add to my list of possible adventures.  I’m looking for something that I’ve never done, or something that scares me.

Here are some other thoughts I had for the spring and summer:

  • plant a vegetable garden,
  • try a triathlon,
  • do the aerial walk,
  • eat Indian food,
  • look for a new job,
  •  tidy the basement storage.

Next week my adventure will be flying transatlantic with the kids.

  1. I have a fear of heights. I’ll do the aerials with you! gulp…

    • We should have bought the deal 😉 Let’s plan something for June. I’ll be there for you.

  2. I’ll eat Indian food with you, if you are looking for a partner in crime 🙂

  3. We shall eat Indian food together my friend! Bur you’re on your own for the aerial walk and the triathlon!

  4. Okay, the three of us will go for Indian. I have to warn you that I do not enjoy spicy, my taste buds are the most Irish part of me.

  5. I know it’s not high adrenaline, but there’s walking/discovering the greenbelt areas around Ottawa (with or without the kids!). Mer Bleue is awesome, as is Pine Grove. Got a dog? Conroy Pit is fun for dog watching, even if you don’t. Bet the kids would enjoy that. Governor General’s residence and watching changing of the guards is great (kids can try to make them laugh). What about trying one of each variety of the Scone Witch flavours? I know I’m not talking high energy or outrageous stuff here, but for every day adventure in your own town, these might be good ones…? Further out of town, Perth has a beautiful river running through it where you can jump in off a public dock/wall thingy. Studio hopping near Merrickville?

    • These are great ideas. I’ve never been to the Scone Witch, so trying their whole menu sounds very appealing.

  6. Ok – Indian is delicious and does not have to be remotely spicy. I think we need to add more than indian to this list. We will open your tastebuds young Irish Lass!

I want to aerial walk too – as long as one of you promises to push me off the edge if I can’t do it myself 😉 I thought about buying the pass too.

What about rock climbing at that new gym in Gatineau? A hot air balloon ride (that’s expensive, but I would be scared!)

    Try out rollerderby!

    • I have always wanted to try roller derby, and rock climbing sounds fun.
We’ll make sure you complete the aerial walk. There may be a little pushing or pulling for each of us, but we’ll get it done!

      • I bought the group buy so we better go to the aerial park now. Oh, and apparently eric wants to come (I got in trouble for not asking! :P)

  7. Oh! Go to France with your entire family maybe could be an adventure. #justsayin
