Getting it Done

Filed under: Plans — by Alison @ 2:22 pm

To follow-up on the lead from Lara and Sara, I’ve been trying to cross off some of those nagging tasks on my to-do list. They aren’t all that exciting, but I’m feeling a sense of accomplishment. So far this spring/summer I’ve finalized our wills, paid the lawyer (this took longer than it should have), ordered my bridesmaid dress and my daughter’s flower girl dress for my sister’s wedding, arranged to have our deck redone and to have the bushes removed, and sorted out replacing our broken sink.

When we moved into our house three years ago, we created a list of home improvements that we wanted to do. The big ones (roof, furnace, bathrooms, laundry room) have been checked off. It’s the smaller ones that seem to be hanging around, some of it is for financial reasons but mostly it’s because they haven’t been made a priority. I’m changing that this summer. So here’s my revised and public to-do list.

  • New front door
  • Drapes for front windows and dining room
  • Fix family picture wall (hoping for help/advice on this one)
  • Clean up vegetable patch
  • Create organized craft cupboard
  • Arrange child care for the fall
  • Use restaurant gift certificates (I am notorious for forgetting gift cards)

I’ll update on this list weekly, and add to it as other things pop up.

What projects are you planning on tackling this summer? Can you help me out with any of mine 😉

  1. Oooh – tell me about the refinishing your deck – do you just mean staining it?

This is a good list – I have SO many things like it I could/should put on my list. Instead this week I skipped my post entirely. oops 😉

    • We’re replacing the old deck completely. It was starting to rot and the space wasn’t that practical for play. It should be done in July.

  2. In July I can do your craft cupboard 🙂 And check out IKEA’s picture frames – they have them in white, brown, and black, several different sizes, and they’re cheap! It would be a good way to hang all your photos with a nice unified look.

    • I look forward to learning from your organizational expertise. We’ll have to set something up for July. IKEA was on my list for picture frames, just need to figure out what sizes I need and plan a shopping day.
