Getting it done- Fall planning

Filed under: Plans — by Alison @ 9:38 pm

It seems that putting your house up for sale is an excellent motivator. The majority of my quickly drafted fall list has been completed. Our kitchen is revamped with new paint and a lovely neutral new floor.

It's so neutral and unassuming.

The basement stairs have also been transformed. I don’t recommend leaving others to oversee your renovations, the contractors did a fine job but forgot some of the finishing elements (like doorknobs and light fixtures). With the help of my dad, these were all taken care of before the open house.

So with the major work done around the house, and a consignment sale next week to purge the last of the baby gear, I’ve decided to refocus my to-do list a little.

The fall house list:

  • Fix up front door
  • Blinds for dining room Real estate agent decided they looked better uncovered
  • Paint kitchen
  • Replace kitchen floor
  • Purge baby gear Underway
  • Basement landing
  • Tidy basement storage
  • Sell house

The new to-do list:

  • Commit to blogging three times a week
  • Figure out a gym schedule that works now that I’m solo parenting
  • Plan a night out with old friends
  • Plan a night out with newer friends
  • Buy new clothes
  • Stop buying chocolate bars
  • Try a new recipe a week
  • Organize Groupon type coupons and use them
  • Stop buying the coupon deals
  • Go to bed earlier

This solo parenting thing is going okay so far but we’re only four days in. Here’s hoping the rest of the fall goes as well.

To Bliss or not

Filed under: Adventure,Learning,Social Media — by Alison @ 3:28 pm

I got caught up in the Blissdom Canada ticket excitement in March and rushed to buy a ticket. Even then I was concerned about the timing. I was supposed to return to work in September, would this be a good use of limited vacation days? I figured I’d hold on to the ticket and decide at a later date. Then in the summer, we decided to move to Seattle. My husband is there now and I’m at home with the kids and a house up for sale. The timing of Blissdom is still a concern. Should I leave the kids for three nights without any parents? Can I leave the house, what if there are viewings?

I’ve sorted out the childcare arrangements. My amazing parents have offered to stay with them, and to make sure the house is ready for viewings.

And now, I’m not so sure I should go to Blissdom. I worry that I won’t fit in, I worry that I won’t understand what’s going on, I worry that I’ll wander around lost, I worry that the people I know will be too busy with others and I’ll be left alone. I haven’t put enough effort into my blog to really feel that I’m genuine. It feels like I’m playing at something that others take seriously. If I’m to get enough out of Blissdom to justify going, then I need this to be a more important aspect of my life.

So, I’ve set myself a goal. I will blog about something every day this week. If I can do that, then I’ll be sharing my bliss. If I can’t, then I guess it wasn’t meant to be.

Jumping – Monday Moments

Filed under: Monday Moments — by Alison @ 12:47 pm

At the beginning of the summer, he’d stand in the hallway, bend his knees and straighten up with a grin. Are you jumping? we’d ask, and he’d nod his head.

Now, he wanders in to his sister’s room. Stands on her rug, and jumps with both feet leaving the ground. “Jump, circles” he announces.

A lot can be learned in a summer.
