Exciting PD Day Activities

Today was a PD Day for E, and I planned something very exciting for us all to do. We were heading to scenic upstate New York to get visas. Woohoo! Can you sense the excitement?

My husband’s visa was delayed, so he didn’t have it until after we left him in Seattle. I didn’t think it was a big deal, we’d just get our visas when we actually moved. Then the moving company put up a little fuss, and wanted visas before they would bring our shipment across the border. While the big move isn’t until the beginning of January, I felt it would be easier to sort out all the paperwork now. Which meant a drive to the border. Luckily the hour drive to the nearest border crossing is super-easy and a little dull. The US Customs and Immigration officers were courteous and efficient. I had all the paperwork and our visas were processed without delay. Then we stopped at the historic Ogdensburg Wal-mart for a bathroom break and candy before returning home. The Canadian Border Services Agent was a bit suspicious when I owned up to having purchased candy, he wasn’t sure this was a valid reason. Once I mentioned the visa, he was much more understanding.

So, all in all, 3 hours that were well spent avoiding possible hassle at the Toronto airport.
