It’s the little differences that get me

When we decided to move to the United States, we knew things would be different. We’d have to pay for health care and watch out for people with guns. But there are these subtle differences that I wasn’t expecting.

Here chocolate bars are called candy bars. They don’t sell Mars Bars or Caramilks.

Here E’s in Second Grade not Grade 2. There are middle schools, and high school football is actually a big deal.

And the thing that really got me today at preschool, they sang it “Skin a marink A dink A dink” with an overemphasis on the  A. I wonder what Sharon, Lois and Bram would think.

  1. It’s so odd when you catch the really sublte ones like that… and then they seem to stick out all the more, eh? You just have to fight it, don’t give in!! 🙂
