Seattle Snow

We fly out in a few days, so I am getting very concerned about the weather forecasts that call for snow. This city can’t handle snow. Everything shuts down: schools, public transit, even coffee shops. The hills and lack of snow clearing equipment make it dangerous. So there would be a strong likelihood of flight cancellations, and I just can’t have that.

Then I realized that when I hear snow in the forecast, I’m thinking:

or even this

But in reality, it’s this:

Just as long as it stays green until Saturday, I’m happy.

Hilights of the week- December 16th

Very tough week to be looking for hilights, everything seems overshadowed by the tragedy (travesty) in Newtown.

1. E turned 7 on Tuesday and enjoyed every bit of her birthday celebrations.

2. A fun outing with friends to see fancy gingerbread houses and watch the monorail.

3.  I love Foundational skills practices, helping new people join our amazing club is such fun.

4. E’s birthday party at the roller rink was a success. All the kids had a lot of fun.

5. We’ll be back in Ottawa by the end of the week.

What was the hilight of your week? Or just something that made you smile?

Much thanks to Ann for the inspiration.

Turning 7

E is 7. That is firmly out of babyhood, she might even be considered a tween. Every so often, I catch glimpses of the teen and adult she may become.

She’s handled this year of change very well. There have been a few ups and downs but it seems to be evening out. She’s finding her rhythm with the new school, new friends, new teachers and a new second (third) language. Her writing and reading skills have taken off.

I love the little notes she writes to me at night.

I love that her iPod playlist includes dance hits and the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders lullaby that she’s listened to since she was a baby.

I love that she is so gentle and caring with her brother.

I love that she likes playing goalie in soccer because it means less running.

I love that her favourite things to play with are her American girl dolls, Lego, Star Wars and Barbie’s.

I love that she wants to roller skate.

I love her so much it feels that my heart will burst.

Happy Birthday E!

Hilights of the week- December 10th

1. Tea with friends and chilling in my house for the afternoon. Hope it happens again soon.

2. Eggnog coffee.

3.  ‘Ugly coffee’ morning play date turned into lunch and afternoon park fun.

4. I got my hair cut for the first time in 16 months, and now have 14 inches to donate and an amazing new style.

5. Playing in snow and then being able to drive home and away from it.

What was the hilight of your week? Or just something that made you smile?

Much thanks to Ann for the inspiration.

Hilights of the week- December 2nd

1. I got my Washington State Drivers License. Wasn’t the best parallel parking attempt, but I did it.

2. Dress shopping with a friend, she needed a bridesmaid dress. Hoping soon it’ll be for her bridal gown.

3.  H keeps singing preschool songs around the house. I especially enjoy the chest thumping that goes along with “Sea otter”.

4. Made our advent activity tree with E. Part of what makes it so fun, is her enthusiasm.

5. Derby scrimmage yesterday. Loved the support for our new skaters, and the general fun times.

What was the hilight of your week? Or just something that made you smile?

Much thanks to Ann for the inspiration.
