Hilights of the week- April 21st

Last Monday, it just didn’t seem right to write about my highlights. Hopefully, this week will be less tumultuous one over all.

1. My parents are here visiting for the week.

2. Scrimmaged last week against and with some of my favourite blockers.

3. I’m really enjoying the Rat Lab practices and watching scrimmages with some very fun people.

4. E’s First Communion went very well. She was nervous but handled herself beautifully.

5. Went on a Segway tour with Dan yesterday. It was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed our afternoon date.

What was the hilight of your week? Or just something that made you smile?

Much thanks to Ann for the inspiration.

Hilights of the week- April 7th

1. I sometimes forget how funny my husband can be. When we were wondering why our downstairs neighbour seems to be constantly cooking onions at 10pm, Dan says “Oh, he must be into that home stew all the young guys at work are talking about. They’re always comparing seasonings..” I cracked up and it still makes me laugh.

2. E was off school this week, so we went for manicures and pedicures on Tuesday and then for coffee and macaroons on Friday. She’s a lot of fun to hang out with.

3. Had my first Rat Lab practice on Saturday and I think it went pretty well.

4. Spent a good part of the day exploring the Pacific Science Centre with friends. I definitely preferred the butterflies over the naked mole rats.

5. Went to a new cupcake bakery with a friend. It was delicious and great to catch up.

What was the hilight of your week? Or just something that made you smile?

Much thanks to Ann for the inspiration.

1. Try-outs were Saturday and I made it all the way to the interview stage. Then after an excruciatingly long wait, I got the call that I have made the Rat Lab (the holding spot until skaters get drafted by one of the home teams). I’m so excited to be part of the Rat City Roller Girls.

2. We had friends over for Easter dinner and it was a fantastic evening. Turkey dinner, sundaes for dessert and fun board games to relax.

3. The sun has reappeared and our backyard is all tidied up.

4. Fancy tea is very nice to share with friends.

5. I made my Easter Eggs and I don’t have to share them.

What was the hilight of your week? Or just something that made you smile?

1.  Ladies night out that involved fondue and lots of laughs. Best part is our plan to make this a monthly occurrence.

5. Sunshine on Sunday allowed for playing at the park, and both kids tried out their roller skates.

Zoo field trip

H’s preschool class had a field trip to the zoo this week. His preschool is held in the basement of a church and they needed access to the kitchen and parking lot during class time, so it was decided that taking everyone out would be a better plan. We all met at the entrance to the zoo, and the kids were handed identifying badges to wear. Normally, in the class of 22 there are 11 parents present. For the field trip there were 17 preschoolers, 3 babies and 18 adults. Needless to say, we didn’t lose any kids.

The best part of the trip was seeing the baby lion cubs. They’re only 3 months old and have just started exploring their exhibit area.

One was a bit curious about us.

One was a bit curious about us.

Or just baffled by the glass.

Or just baffled by the glass.

All four of the cubs, checked out the window and then wandered away to play. While the cubs were near the window, their mother prowled near by. The zoo staff is keeping visitors about 6 feet away from the glass, to help comfort the mother.

The zoo trip ended with a small circle time, including a story.

And then a group trip to the carousel.

I’m planning another trip to watch those baby cubs again soon. Or maybe I’ll just watch the videos http://www.zoo.org/lioncubs
